I have created some categories.
Next step were to insert a new book, but I cannot choosing a category - there is no entry in the drop down field.

can you send me the php error logs that occur when you open the new book page?

Unfortunatly I don't know what I have to do to see the php error logs.

Hi SMEYER,
to get PHP error log you may ask help your hosting provider. Can you tell me the php version? I will try to install Abook in the same php version.

Unfortunately my operative system provides PHP 5.3.10 version only.

I can help you only if you send me the log error, otherwise you may try to uninstall and reinstall Abook, But I can not tell you for sure that problem will be solved.

now I have the php log file.

I'll send you the log file entries via email. I don't like to publish server informations in the forum.
Is it your email-address in the component description in the author column?
Or how can I send you the text?
